The End of A Beginning.

12/22/14

When we parted I thought my heart had stopped beating. I felt a stirring undercurrent of shame, doubt, failure, and fear. Fear for being pushed aside, fear for abandonment, fear for standing alone, fear for security. Each day became a grueling reminder of the present and the lack of future for us. I heard a voice inside me cry out in anguish and knew for certain I would never walk away from this unscathed. Because for once in my life I realized that my most prized possession had fled and was never truly mine at all. I became unwound through the mourning of us. The mourning of several years in the making, countless nights cherished now shared with remnants of the guttural pain inching in my stomach every time I say your name. How did we get here? You have changed me. You have marked me. You have hurt me. But yet I am alive and still without you by my side I won't just rise but this time I'll make sure to thrive. Because I can.

Coldest Winter Ever

This winter feels like the coldest winter ever. I find myself growing more conscious  and aware of our Earth.  Right now, the temperature feels like cracking spirits fighting in so many ways. Like the way the wind whips the air and freezes my fingertips mid text and the layers upon layers of clothing that make it even unbearable to walk without waddling, sweating, or fussing. Especially in the desperation to immediately snuggle into a scarf as soon as the cold greets my flesh. Yes, it has been a rather frigid winter in NYC. Partly, because it has not been this cold in years and this manic need to run for warmth takes away the ability to truly enjoy all the elements of Winter. But these days I just want limitless cups of hot chocolate, thick comforters, and togetherness.

Tis all.

Pages From My Diary: Happily Living My Truth

{12/15/12 - 11:01 PM}
I’d give the clothes off my back
the last dollar in my wallet
the last gulp of my water
to help someone, anyone

I’ve learned a lot about myself these past few days. I’ve learned that you never know how much someone might need you. You never know how much you might need them too. And in that neediness you never know the situations that will permit or prohibit it.
I have a big heart, so big that it gets me into trouble a lot. I’ve been feeling particularly responsible for helping out a beautiful stranger who recently reached out to me. I’ve felt hopeless and helpless at the situation this troubled soul is facing but in these emotions something crazy happened. I suddenly felt excited that out of all to confide in she chose me. There’s something uplifting and warming in knowing that another finds you inviting, trustworthy, and caring. It’s left me with a cosmic energy that affirms my tenderness and my selfless intentions. For so long, I’ve felt like I was nothing but selfish but this stranger has helped me learn even more about myself.
Even as I sit here, digressing from writing my final paper I am thinking of her situation and how to help appease the demons taunting her reality. She hasn’t said that she is depending on me but deep down inside I know it. I know I should disconnect before I become too invested but to be honest I think it is already too late. As people we are only seeking love in this life, be it love from unexpected acts of kindness, love through wounds, or love in its purest form. The goal is self explanatory.
I just want to be able to look back and tell someone that I gave from the bottom of my heart without thinking and without regret. It doesn’t always have to be equated with intimate relationships of the opposite sex sometimes its the little things we do for others who do not fit into a certain category. It’s what we do for the beautiful beings out there who are easily written off, misunderstood, and lost. It’s helping someone find there way during the darkest times by providing sunlight through the rain. That’s what makes living life special, interesting, and fulfilling.
Tonight I feel more than enlightened. I feel so deeply inspired by my acts of contrition. I’m not so bad after all, I still believe in asking questions and finding the answers to why. I’m not cold or shrewd to those who aren’t so fortunate and I don’t think I ever will be. That alone is enough to know that I am fulfilling my duties here on Earth, whatever they may be I know they involve offering an extra hand, turning a cheek, and giving a shoulder to lean on.
I am happy living that truth.

Are you happily living your truth too?

School Update: Fall 2012 Grades Are In!

Hey Belles! I wanted to share my grades for last semester.  They are all finally in and it wouldn't feel right if I didn't recap my crazy semester! Fall was definitely a jack of all trades.  I took a variety of courses that were equally challenging and still walked away with a term GPA higher than a 3.5. For that I am extremely proud of myself and yes, I will be receiving my letter for making the dean's list very soon!

Intro To Music - This course opened my eyes to western music and forced me to understand the dynamics of music. The course was almost like a history class because there was so much to remember and learn. One word to describe my professor was DOPE. She broke down this stale history and made it intriguing for us. I had to do a lot of off campus concert reports where I developed a new love for performing arts once again.

Intro Spanish 2 - I had such a great professor. She truly is a sweet heart and her course was fun but very challenging. I am happy I was given that B+ because lord knows I am not a master in Spanish. The language is complex for me but I worked as hard as I could.

Developmental USSO - This course was pretty laid back.  The material was comprehend-able seeing as I've been learning about US history since I was 8! My professor was a cooky fella who had jokes for days.

Theories of Personality - I will be honest. I was so worried about this course because the professor was thrown into our course without being adequately prepared. However, she still made it work and got through to us in a way that left us very engaged but unsure of our grades. Needless, to say it wasn't a class I woke up willingly for but yay for that A-

Applied Stats -Seriously one of the hardest courses of my life. I am so grateful that I walked out of this class with an A- because I really worked and gave it my all the best I can. Math is not my friend by psychology is one of my passions and this course was a requirement for my degree. My professor changed my life he is such an inspiration and was so supportive during this difficult course material!

Overall, I am extremely proud of my accomplishments. Yes, I wish I got all A's but I'm not a robot. The level of difficulty all these courses contained speaks for itself and I am pretty blessed to have still done so well despite that. I am currently enrolled in a Winter course and am working hard once again to keep my GPA moving up. Graduation is right around the corner and I am more ready than ever to become an academic scholar.

Wish me luck!

I’ve been drawn to things portrayed in black and white lately. Pictures, art, movies, and literature. Its transcended a sense of curiosity and tranquility in me. I don’t know how those words fit together but I swear that is exactly what it feels like. Something simple and enchanting about focusing on an image that isn’t saturated with distractions. Something very intriguing about paying attention to all those details. Something fun about searching for those grey areas that everyone claims they never see. I’ve been thinking about writing again too. Not like I do here but really writing a nice piece of literature, a work of prose, contributing to the masses again. I’ve been doing a lot of reading too. Reading any and everything I can get my hands on. Topics that I would never imagine interested me but I’m so glad that do.  Like feminism, human sexuality, cultural studies, psychological analysis, mysteries, and short stories, how I delight in reading short stories. I’ve been highlighting quotes on top of quotes, defining words, researching songs, poems, and titles of books mentioned in these books I’m reading. Applying it to my life in some way, searching for a deeper meaning behind why exactly I’m reading it. Is it significant to my being, if not why? Words are the most exciting thing to ever happen to me as cliche as it sounds they work with me, they get me, they know me and I know them too.

Today I decided to make a change. I decided to do for me for once. I decided to stop waiting for others to give and instead gave for myself. I decided to put dependency away and try out independence and i like it. Better yet, l loved it! It feels so empowering and so invigorating. It felt so damn good. I'm not a little girl anymore. I don't need anyone to do things for me anymore either. I should of done this along time ago but better late than never, right? Maybe I can grow to love this young woman who is independent, the woman I should of been years ago.

School Update: Grades Are In!

So remember how MIA I was this year? School was nailing me down and I was so focused. I guess my hard work eventually paid off because I didn't do so bad this  semester. Straight A's! I am so pleased and proud of my progress in my school studies. I thought with everyone graduating, I would become distracted and too depressed because I wasn't walking across the stage like I'd planned four years ago. But you know what? A tiny light shined inside of me and directed my to the right path. It all came from within, the sudden surge of will power, determination, and ambition.  Sometimes we just need to count on our guts, let go of our doubts, and believe until we can't anymore. That's what I did.

I didn't let the fact that I am a year behind in undergraduate deflate my drive for success because I know life isn't straight. There are bends, twists, and curves that can send you over a cliff if you don't buckle up. I'm ready for it and I am awaiting the endless possibilities that are coming soon. I am so fortunate and grateful to those who support my academic endeavors and my dreams. It means the world having a great team behind me. Without them, those straight A's wouldn't be possible. I give thanks to them all.

This summer I am currently enrolled in a course and so far I've landed an A+ on my midterm. I'm not losing ammunition on this ride. Let the saga continue ladies. Always challenge yourself and reach for the top. Don't you dare settle for the bottom, you won't ever belong there.

If you were wondering what courses I took they were:
  • Independent Research Study
  • Advanced Legal Analysis
  • Psychology of Personality
  • Spanish 1
  • Civil Rights & Literature
  • Currently taking: Infancy & Childhood

Are you taking any classes this summer?

Pages From My Diary: The Fat Girl Complex

Last month, I received a not so nice comment from an anonymous person that just spewed negativity and I have to admit that it made me feel a little low (although at the time I refused to acknowledge the way it really made me feel.) However, I've come to realize that unconsciously pretending that those words didn't hurt were far more damaging which is why I am sharing it with you all now in this entry that is more personal for me than anything. I want to state that this post is more about me than it is my readers. I needed to release this tension in order to move forward in my journey. And I hope it works

3/19/12 (11:05 PM)

"Recently, I’ve been at a standstill in my life. It’s not that I am depressed, down or out, but I am not as chipper. I am not as confident. I am not as eager. I am not as outgoing. I am not as me.

I’ve had a hard time putting my finger on what exactly is causing this unwantedchange in my behavior and my perception of reality. I guess it has to do with the struggles of being on a weight loss journey. The ups and downs that is…

The more you loose the more self-conscious you start to become. I know it sounds backwards but it’s true for me. I can’t go a day without pointing out some imperfection on my body. It’s weird because even at my heaviest weight I felt far more confident than I do now that I’ve lost some pounds.

I like to call this the fat girl complex. When I look in the mirror, I still see old Daisy. 260lbs Daisy. It’s an image that just won’t get out of my head and its hindering me so much.

I am currently stuck at a plateau and it has been effecting my every day more than I’ve realized. I am distant from my blog, distant from my closet, and distant from my emotions. (mind you, these are things that I used to couldn’t get enough of) I feel almost like I am slightly disappointed (dear I say it) that I’veonly lost -40lbs.

I want so much more for myself and I know that I am capable of so much more. I just can’t figure out what exactly is holding me back from achieving this.

I thought writing out all these emotions would help these issues come to surface and the negativity of these thoughts would therefore leave my mind, but I still feel uneasy about it all.

They say it’s only natural that the journey starts to get tough because anything worth having is never gained easily. I guess I’m getting a heavy dose of this now.

But one thing I have to say is that although I am upset and frustrated the desirein me to gain a healthier lifestyle has not fled. I haven’t thrown in the towel, I refuse to give up, and I will succeed at this because this is worth the fight. Thelong treacherous fight.

I will make it in the end. I CAN do this! I HAVE done this! I AM doing this!"

Anyone out there feel where I'm coming from? Have any remedies, encouragement, or

suggestions to help my get through this rocky patch in my weight loss journey?

Real Talk: Hold Close to Your Moments of Love

The holiday/winter season has officially begun and the stereotypical pressure of "cuffing or snuggling" season has also begun. During this time of the year I encourage you all to hold close to the ones you love. If you are single, do not let these cliche definitions of what the holiday/winter season is suppose to bring intimacy wise phase you. You don't need to throw yourself into the arms of any tom, dick, or harry, or sally to feel like your being included in the "snuggling love" fest. Just look around you and hold close to those that are already there. Don't know what the heck I'm talking about? Well listen up Belles!
  • Hold close to your furry pet
  • Hold close to your grandmother's warm spirit
  • Hold close to your toddler or child
  • Hold close to your dreams no matter how far away
  • Hold close to your goals, goals, goals
  • Hold close to your very best friend
  • Hold close to your favorite pillow
  • Hold close to your favorite melodies and songs
  • Hols close to your brand new purse you picked up at Black Friday
  • Hold close to your wildly crazy parents
  • Hold close to your irritating siblings
Just Hold close to whatever is in your heart and try not to buy into these opinions of what the holidays/winter should entail. Work towards a better you, a tighter bond with family, share your blessings with your God or religious figure, and build a mutual understanding among your friends! Make the holidays everything YOU want it to be and that's all that matters!

real talk: words are deadly

mirror image?

This is so relevant to our situation these days. It's strange the way our situations have reversed, I'm a patient lover though. So as much as it should discourage me, it doesn't.

FRESH AIR.

This weekend was absolutely amazing. I took a trip down to Washington, DC to celebrate a close friend’s 21st birthday and I must say it was so refreshing to escape NYC! I always encourage myself to flee my comfort zone every now and then just to keep adventure fresh and alive. It was well spent among some of the greatest people I’ve met in my life and reuniting was something I’ve been longing for months. Nostalgia has been hitting my heart very hard since I transferred from Maryland. I’m so glad I made the trip and I’m glad to have created a catalyst of new memories. I will make my business to make it a habit to embrace my Morgan family, more often. Especially, my ride or dies.

Pictures later I actually, have a lot of reading to catch up on for this week of class.

DAY 4 WRITE ABOUT A PERIOD OF TIME IN YOUR LIFE WHERE THINGS SEEMED TO BE CONSTANTLY GOING GOOD.

I want to say when I was turning thirteen. Everyone who was a major part of my life were still alive (ie. my aunties), my older sister was making attempts to be apart of my life, I was careless, creative, and so excited with living out my youth. There was no rushing to grow up, no urge to be someone I wasn’t, all there was to me was this beautiful life I had been blessed with. But, I’ll stop here because this is too personal for me. Instead, I will just sum it with this one quote: “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.”—Kurt Vonnegut

Side Note: Coincidently, I just finished reading a short story from this author for one of my Literature classes today!

DAY 3 IF YOU ONLY HAD 24 HOURS TO LIVE, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO DO?

Honestly, I have no idea how to even answer this one but I will try. To be honest, I would do whatever my little heart desires. Today it might be something different and tomorrow it might be something new. But right now, I would gather all of my loved one’s and run away to Northern California or Central Park and go sledding, like kids…perhaps travel back to Central Park and find the biggest hill and form a line and roll down it, I don’t care about the grass stains… I want to spend my last twenty four hours smiling from ear to ear, laughter, freedom, being completely happy with the life i’ve lived …cherish my youth again, something keeps bringing me back to my childhood.

this won’t make sense to anyone but me sorry

pause: put away the planners

As much as I like being organized, once in a while I enjoy a healthy dose of chaos. A mess of things to sort through, most times i find hidden treasures, i relieve stress, and make room for reinvention. Because honestly, if there were no mess, there would be no room for me to enjoy getting out of control, being boundless, or free falling. Sometimes, I feel like when you’re too consumed in an organized lifestyle there is little room for development, vibrancy, or character. It’s weird and I may be contradicting myself but there are days when I purposely leave my planner behind, step away from routine, and just live. And those days, are my best days.

Now that my spring semester is starting … I have to stay orderly and organized. I’m going to miss those reckless days where I wake up with no plans, just the desire to get out and let my soul lead me wherever. No appointments, no planners, no calender.

Now I have to go back to the exact opposite.

I always screw it up

HERE WE GO AGAIN.

i’m wired awake tonight and i cannot sleep. i’ve been feeling great lately with all the positive energy surrounding me. it really feels good to actually fulfill the goals i’ve created for myself and so far i’ve set a lot of new ones in motion. i love that i constantly surround myself with good people, good music, good vibes, good intentions. i feel lighter. almost as if those terrible burdens that used to weight me down are almost gone. it feels nice and i cannot wait for that moment of complete ease, peace of mind, relaxation.

it’s been a very chaotic winter break for me, with my LSAT course and now currently starting my internship with the district attorney. i wish i actually had the opportunity to enjoy my break and focus on my hobbies getting out there shooting and picking up with my writing. but i am very glad to say i’ve been rich with knowledge on the day to day with my classes and any learning opportunity is wonderful. i can say that i actually did something productive with my break despite how much free time i hardly spent, but at the end of the day this will enable me to keep striving for my dreams. i am glad and at the same time a bit hesitant, i guess the feeling is bittersweet i suppose—i know i will get that time to completely relax sometime this year.

so thus far, i’m getting out my brand new planner and making things happen this semester, which starts next monday for me. getting organized, staying focused, and creating a system to reduce high stress levels and procrastination. there is no room for that type of energy in my agenda. i’m excited for more challenges and obstacles to overcome.
