Nail Polish Adventures: Oh Hai Lavender Cupcake!

TWITTER // LOOKBOOK // TUMBLR // BLOGLOVIN // FACEBOOK
Hey Beauty Belles! This weeks manicure features a lovely lavender pastel shade from New York Color (NYC) called Lavender Cupcake. It is so light and refreshing. I love how it meshes so well with winter accented shades like burgundies, greens, and navy blues.

I decided to add my signature glitter spin for a pop of color and definition. I kept getting compliments everywhere I went on the silver on lavender nail combination =)

Forever 21's Love & Beauty nail section has some great hidden gems. I received this glitter polish in a pack of ten for less than $6. I highly recommend investing because the quality is remarkable and worth more than you pay.

Lipstick Adventures: Flame!

TWITTER // LOOKBOOK // TUMBLR // BLOGLOVIN // FACEBOOK

Hey Beauty Belles! This week's Lipstick Adventure features a fiery red from Covergirl called Flame. I am in love with these lipsticks and I can't seem to ever find the perfect red. However, this red is hot as hell. The kind I throw on for attention, eye popping, flattering and stop and share type of reactions.  As a girl with a coco glow red can be quite a daunting lipstick shade to perfect but I swear cover girl got it right for us this time.

Below I shared a color swatch against my skin to clarify just how exuberant and radiant it is on my brown skin. I am so in love with 300 flame, did I say that already?

Why I love it:
  • I love it because it is apart of the creme collection and is very smooth.
  • It has a very rich moisturizing texture and the shade is truly to die for sexy.
  • It's like a mix of coral and red.
  • It looks fantastic paired with clear lip gloss
  • It isn't an arm and a leg at just $6.99!
  • It's perfect for girls nights out and especially for dates.

Hey Beauty Belles! I have a new adventure to share with you all. One of my goals for the New Year is to keep up with my nails on a weekly basis. So here I am week two kicking off my Sunday Funday nails. I decided on a bubbly purple shade that was sassy and cute.

I loved the idea of adding some glitter for a nice pop to the color.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure as the main shade, I got this baby on sale for $2.05 at my local target but it usually retails for between $5.99 to $6.99. #SCORE The Love & Beauty glitter purple shade came in a variety pack that was under $5. #SUPERDEAL

Nail Polish Adventures: What's On My Wednesday Wishlist?

TWITTER // LOOKBOOK // TUMBLR // BLOGLOVIN // FACEBOOK
(Magazine Issue: Vogue UK September 2012)

This Wednesday I wanted to share my nail polish wishlist for the holiday season. We are slowly leaving Fall behind and approaching Winter and what better shades to keep your nails on trend? I am loving dark hues and Gothic tones. I indicated the shades that tickle my fancy in particular by the pink arrows.

1. Stylenomics- that hunter green is too rich
2. Licorice - what a lovely wine shade, this color is really popping right now too!
3. Luxedo - is an amazing purple violet shade that reminds me of Christmas...so cute.

Do you think these shades are too dark?

Daisy Talks Beauty: NYX Lip Gloss Set Review

(without the flash)
Hey Beauty Belles! I stumbled upon this amazing lip gloss set from NYX called Love's Anthem at my local Urban Outfitters. I had to do a double take when I scored the price tag which was only $10 for 10 beautiful shades. I had to fill you all in on this steal and tell you why I think its a total deal!
(With Flash)
I've had these lip glosses for about three months now and I use them daily so I apologize for them looking less full! Anyways, I love that there is a great variety of shades to use. You have your sets of pinks, reds, nudes, and browns.

  • Ebay

Pros: The colors really pop on my skin tone. The quality is amazing. It reminds me of MAC lipglass and the shades are almost similar to some of the selections by MAC. Enhances any lipstick, honestly. I have a lipstick that works with any one of these shades which is amazing because it adds such a nice shine completing your look!
Cons: None of these shades had names or numbers to identify them. (This isn't a total deal breaker for me because I am so satisfied with the quality but it makes it difficult to review without some sort of names haha.) Product can be a little bit runny so double check your teeth before leaving the house!

Here are my color swatches. As you can see there is a nice range of shades. My favorites and most used include the Hot pink to the left and the blush pink to the right. All shades get love but those two really do it for me!

I want to give this product an A because I am totally happy with it, at $10 you can't really complain, am I right?!

Do you wear lip gloss on top of your lipstick?

  • It is super affordable at $7.99.

Hair Adventures: My 1st Bantu Knot Twist Out

Hey belles! I am sure that there are more than a few of you out there who aren't so new to natural hairstyles like I am. However, due to my strict workout regime, the reappearing heat from the sun, and my lack of attention to my hair, I've decided to dabble in the natural hair pool out of pure convenience. I could not continue roaming the streets of NYC with a boring pony tail for any longer! I was desperate for a change.

Before I knew it I'd stumbled upon youtube and discovered this easy, heat free, cute hairstyle. I gave it my all and I absolutely loved the outcome to death. I wanted to share my method, results, and opinions about it with you.

What Did I Do?
  1. First, I washed and deep conditioned my hair
  2. Next, I grabbed some olive oil spray, a long tail tip comb, and filled a spray bottle with water in case my hair dried out.
  3. I coated my hair in the olive oil and began parting it into several sections: about 14 sections (I have thinner hair)
  4. I began twisting my hair tightly until it locked underneath my hair into a nice bantu knot and proceeded until each section of my hair was knotted.
  5. I spritzed my hair with water and hair spray once I was done knotting every section of my hair
  6. I tied my hair with a silk scarf
  7. Slept on it & woke up the next morning and took the knots out carefully after my shower
  8. I unscrewed my knots like they were bottle caps making sure to keep the curl in tack
  9. Then I took apart the curl making sure it filled out nicely.
  10. I grabbed my comb and combed at my roots  lightly to rid all of the parts from being visible.
  11. Then I pulled the curls slightly through my fingers for extra volume.
  12. Lastly I sprayed my hair lightly with water to add a bit more moisture and was set!!

I gave the hairstyle my all and I absolutely loved the outcome to death. It made my hair look so full and curls were so shiny, bouncy, and cute. All this done without the use of heat or tools was a plus. I've tried it twice wet and damp. I prefer it wet. I think this will be my summer go to style. Natural makes me feel so excited and fun. I am unsure if I want to make it something permanent or temporary. This style would be perfect for transitioning and safety. Who know's if I'll go all the way natural but one thing's for sure; I love it!

Is your hair natural?
Have you tried this style before?

Nail Polish Adventures: Plastic Flamingo (NEON)

Hey beauty belles! It's been forever since I've shared a nail polish adventure with you all so here it goes. I know the neon trend is really big this season but I don't believe in splurging too much on trends just staples so I decided the perfect way to have a share of the new trend was through a small item like my polish. I wanted my nails to pot with a trendy cute hue!

So I decided to give this new polish brand called Spoiled a try. It reminded me of my personal favorite, Sinful Color and it was completely affordable at $1.99! It made my purchase all the more sweeter and exciting. The name of this magical shade is Plastic Flamingo reminding me a lot of California for whatever reason, somewhere out in Orange Country or the scandalous, flashy, city of LA. (Random, I know haha)

Scent Stories: Big Pony Collection #2 (Review)

Hello Beauty Belles! Long time no see! This Spring I was awarded a few new goodies for my hard work in dedication in my academic studies and participation in the 2012 CUNY Role Model Program.  This program is sponsored by L'Oreal and endorsed by the NY Coalition of 100 Black Women.

It turns out L'Oreal actually owns Ralph Lauren Fragrances and the other peers in my group got an exclusive insider peek into the new Big Pony Collection from Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2012. It is composed of 4 different scents numbered 1-4.

We were asked by the Ralph Lauren representative present to take the Big Pony Fragrance Quiz. The quiz tells you which scent best matches your personality and is totally fun.  You can take it here

When I took it I was told my scent was #4 which I also own but #2 won me over!

I chose #2 because it is fruity, sensual, girly, and fun.  It's basically me in a nut shell. I love this scent. It reminds me of long walks on the beach, sunny days, and warm nights.  I love that it is light and not so overbearing like some of the other scents in the Big Pony Collection.

If I had to give this scent a rating of 1-5 (5 being the highest) I would give it a 5! It's that great!

(*side note: I was not paid to do this post)

What scent are you wearing this Summer?

Nail Polish Adventures: Braziliant!

This weeks manicure shade was a warm orange shade from Essie called "Braziliant." This color makes me mourn those scorching hot summer days or those early spring mornings where you lie about wanting to do nothing but gaze at the blooming flowers. This winter has been quite nontraditional with its peak in warmth rather than harsh cold; so it was so easy for me to pick this summery shade.
I would say this color if anything is the product of a love child between peach and zesty orange. It really makes your fingers glow too! I decided to try something new by putting down my usual glitter top coat and substituted with a crackle shade instead. I know, quite shocking indeed. I just felt like trying out this new polish I scored back in December for less than 3 bucks on Times Square.
The crackle polish is from none other than China Glaze who I've been meaning to try for years, the shade is called "Platinum Pieces." The camera didn't pick up the crackle print too well, I'll just have to work on aiming for better lighting next time around Belles!
